10.50 – 11.50 | Reconciling and examining data | This will cover the general data quality checks and inspections. Trainees will understand how to query data for inconsistencies, identify missing or skipped data elements and perform record isolation and filtration This section will cover the first phase of Data Analytics which deals with extraction, transfer and loading of data to the analysis platform. This section will discuss how to perform the actual analysis and will cover updating the work plan based on lessons from phase 1, confirmation of proposed analysis and commencement of analysis. |

14.00 – 15.00 | Identifying irregularities | Using the capabilities of the analytics tool, trainees will learn how to drill down on irregular records, filter them out and investigate further. |
15.00 – 16.30 | Manipulating datasets and adding fields | In this section, trainees will be taught on how to perform complex analysis on the data and build advanced queries on the same that would enable them achieve audit objectives on the data. In addition comparing and analysing multiple data files and generating exceptions on the same will be covered |
Day 2: Experts tasks and Reporting

08.00 –09.30 | Data Governance, Master data quality metrics | This section will discuss how to perform the review of master data and the creation of metrics that determine the actual value of the data components and their risk rating. This topic will discuss how to perform the actual data quality analysis, track quality metrics and ultimately highlight to continually monitor these to enable teams garner from analytics. |

10.50 – 12:00 | Introduction to Forensic Data Analytics | This topic will introduce the audience to Forensic Data Analysis and will cover the definition, application and differentiation between it and the routine Data Analytics as well as the benefits of Forensic Data Analytics in prevention, detection and responding to fraud in organizations. It will also cover the fraud indicators in the key functional cycles with sample case studies |
12.00 – 13.00 | Introduction to continuous auditing Test automation (practical) | In this section trainees will cover the concepts of deploying automated audit analytics tests that continuously monitor high risk processes and give exceptions without requiring manual intervention. Trainees will then automate some analytics tests already undertaken in the case studies and schedule them to with no manual intervention. |

14.00 – 16.00 | Working with outputs / visualizing | In this section, trainees will learn how to work with visualization of outputs generated from analysis done earlier. (PowerBI desktop version as sample tool) |

Mr. Denis Mutinda
Senior Manager, Data & Analytics in KPMG and has 17 years of experience in the consulting space. He is a CISA certified member of the ISACA Kenya Chapter. He is also a PRINCE2 certified practitioner. He also champions Business Intelligence / Continuous Monitoring through the use of software products “IDEA” Data Analysis Software, Alessa (Continuous Monitoring), Python, PowerBI and have gain worthwhile experience in his time in KPMG on IT Project advisory which includes requirements definition, system selection and implementation. He is a PRINCE2 certified practitioner.
He has significant volunteer, presenter and trainer experience for KPMG, ISACA Kenya Chapter since 2006, IIA Tanzania, IIA Rwanda and IIA Ethiopia. This include various talks on Data Analytics (Data Governance and Management, Data Analysis & Visualization), Continuous Auditing and Monitoring (CACM) and IT Audit (IT General Controls and Application Controls). Denis is a KPMG Africa Accredited Facilitator.
He served in the education committee of the ISACA Kenya chapter from 2014 to 2016 and helped in the organisation and training events for the chapter as well as facilitate some of the trainings. He later served as the president of chapter from 2016 to 2018 and became the immediate past president from 2018 to 2021.
